Tutoring Approach: Check the level of knowledge of the person and accordingly start to improve the person's knowledge from that level and above. Also, depending on the individual's personal abilities, we move faster or slower accordingly. Its also good to try not to leave any gaps at all in the process, because after a while those gaps can become worse by time. |

I also go over important grammar constructions and teach on how to write sentences and essays. |

| About Nick: I have experience playing and composing music especially with my guitar and keyboard. I am primarily qualified as a music producer with many skills in mixing and mastering. I have been involved in many professional productions across the north e.g. in Dance City, and The Rheged Centre fashion show for Debenhams and Mercedes to name a few. I am an enthusiastic, creative and motivated person with a keen interest to teach. I am a highly effective linguist with great academic, technical, teaching and professional background. I am a native speaker of Greek and English, bilingual in all modes. Educated in both Greece and England I have an advantage in understanding the culture and concept of each language, therefore making me able to specialize and understand the difficulties between an English student wanting to learn Greek or vice versa. I find teaching extremely rewarding particularly when contributing to the learners' development by passing on my passion for language and culture with an outstanding approach to lessons. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to international students across a range of ages and levels both in the UK and in Athens. In Athens I was employed as a private English tutor and trusted by many families to provide good results for their children as well as adult learners. Qualifications |
Tutoring Approach: After been a student for many years, I have obtained a knowledge for efficient studying, aiding students whatever the level, to achieve their full potential in Greek, English, or Music Production. My teaching experience ranges from children to adults with extremely positive results. Greek is a challenging language however with my passion for teaching it, achieving fluency is possible for anyone that truly wants to learn. I am very flexible and very patient with a high understanding of the students' needs. My lessons are designed to cater for students' individual needs. The materials used focus on real communication for a real purpose. I encourage students to make mistakes but also teach them to learn from them. I have always believed in the communicative approach for teaching, which ensures that students seize the structural aspects of a language or subject. This method shows a particular advance for my language students in becoming fluent speakers. I also incorporate the use of modern technology in my lessons (used by NASA). It is a vital part of our everyday lives and I feel it is essential to the learning process. Regular sessions in the language subjects each week, would ensure full potential and maximize student results, as they need to frequently exercise what they have learned. Hard work and repetition is essential, but my experience over the years has taught me to make it fun and rewarding. |

| About Jenny: I am an English lady who has lived and worked in many different countries. I have a love not just for languages but for learning about and experiencing different cultures and outlooks on life. For a hobby, I work on ancient Greek and Latin manuscripts, with people in France, Spain, and world-wide. |
Teaching Experience: I have a wide range of teaching experience over 30 years, in primary and secondary schools, in universities and adult education. I have worked on a one to one basis, in small groups and with larger classes. I have particular experience of helping students with dyslexia or other learning difficulties. Please note: Greek means 'ancient Greek' (classical or biblical). I can also teach Catalan, to GCSE. |
Tutoring Approach: My chief aim in tutoring is to give the students confidence in their abilities and to help them recognize their own strengths and weaknesses as well as the way they learn best. I like to make the lessons enjoyable and stimulating, adjusting the level of challenge to suit the student. The lessons do not have to be for an exam, they can also be a leisure activity. My philosophy is that everyone can learn a language, and that it can be fun! I work on a one to one basis and also with small groups if friends want to get together. Charges are reduced per student for group classes. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Larri: I believe in a 'total immersion' approach to learning a language, wherein the culture of the country is enjoyed to its full. My students range in age from 7 to 70. I attend a Greek Dance Culture Group and encourage my language students to learn at least a few dances. The traditional food, music and hospitality are also high on our agenda in the form of Greek Evenings and parties which are solely for the benefit of those learning Greek and not for our professional purposes. |
Teaching Experience: I graduated from the Philosophy Department of the University of Nottingham in 1993 but actually started teaching Greek in Berkshire in the eighties whilst studying at the University of Reading. I completed my teaching diploma whilst in Berkshire. I worked as Language Consultant to the BBC in the Talk Greek television series for BBC2's Learning Zone, and as Editorial Consultant on the new update of Greek Language People, the BBC publication. I have also taught intensive Greek on various Ministry of Defence assignments. I have Greek classes at the University of Nottingham on the main campus and in the School of Continuing Education. I am also an official interpreter/translator for Greek and English.. |
Tutoring Approach: Whether you consider yourself a Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced, and whether you want to learn Greek for your holidays in Greece, business or other purposes, there is a course to suit you. You may study for GCSE, A Level or Institute of Linguists examinations. All classes are small and friendly, so that for the most part you can come armed with as many questions as you wish and learn at your own pace. One-to-one tuition is also available so that you will be speaking Greek at the earliest opportunity. |

View Thanasi's Profile

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Thanasi: I am currently a PhD student at Swansea University and reside in Cardiff. I have my bachelor's degree in Psychology (BSocSci: Psychology) and was awarded an additional, more specific, honours degree in the subject in 2005 (BA(Hons): Psychology). During my undergraduate years, I also registered for and excelled in various Political Science, International Relations, History and Philosophy modules over my 3 year bachelor's studies. I was born and raised in South Africa and have a firm command of the English language. I have also lived in Greece for 3 years and therefore speak both English and Greek fluently. I'm interested in tutoring pupils who genuinely require assistance in either improving or maintaining their grades. |
Teaching Experience: I have been providing part-time tutorial classes since my second year of university (2003). I began by offering extra-maths classes to junior high school pupils and started off with a promising amount of students. I then continued to provide extra-classes in English and History (GCSE curriculum) in 2004 and 2005 to a few students. In 2006, I tutored an A-level student in Political Science, History and Psychology. She did extremely well in her final exams and was awarded two A's and a B. During 2007, I assisted an English instructor at the Greek Naval Base in various education-related tasks that included assisting in class preparation, composing and printing tests and exams as well as editing various work-related documents. In 2008 I provided extra lessons to a young lady in Cardiff who needed assistance with her A-level History and Politics. She obtained B and C grades respectively for the subjects (an improvement of 10% and 20% respectively) and is now studying Law at university. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe in assisting pupils not only directly in their related subjects but also in actualising their potential and gaining confidence in their ability to answer complex questions under time pressure. I have found that a calm, supportive yet professional attitude is most effective in aiding pupils to find the solutions on their own, with the appropriate guidance provided by the tutor. In doing so, not only are the relevant methods applied in the tutorial classes by the pupil him/herself but in addition, pupils tend to feel more in-control and confident in facing tests and exams once they apply themselves within such a stimulating environment. The tutoring process would begin by assessing the pupil's level in the first lesson and then preparing the suitable course work and materials for the second lesson. Thereafter, greater exposure to related areas of interest within the subject will ensue in subsequent lessons. Students are also occasionally required to prepare a past-paper question that I will provide them with for homework however no 'deadlines' are set, given that the student has other commitments. It is in the best interest of the student though to answer these particular questions on their own accord so that they can gain as much as possible from the tutorials. I currently have two students (for psychology and history) and am willing to take on more students. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Dan: I am very organised, flexible and extremely hard working and self motivated with over 12 years experience in ancient languages. I am capable of deciphering and analysing many classical texts and have the ability to convey information, no matter how difficult, in a simplistic and understandable manner. I am very creative and a determined free thinker who works to exceptionally high standards with great pride and tireless effort. My interests include reading ancient writings, especially Homer and Virgil, reading, creative writing, playing sport, excelling namely in Football and cricket, watching and studying film and videos, carpentry, and cooking. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching ancient languages to students of all ages and experience for many years. Whether you are a beginner or not, I can help with any form of basic langugae and far more advanced subjects, focusing mainly on ancient authorsand their famous literature. Whether it be Homer's Iliad, Virgil's Georgics, Aristophanes' Wasps and mamy more, I have a deep knowledge and understanding of the ancient world and its inhabitants. |
Tutoring Approach: Having been tutored at a young age, struggling with the ability to comprehend everything in a class of over 25 or 30 people, I was given the necessary attention to allow my academic ability to bloom in a more reassuring environment. I found that in the intimate environment that tutoring offers, I was able to have my questions answered and receive the attention that is rarely possible in the majority of school classrooms. This helped to build my confidence inside and outside of schoolwork and set me in good stead for the remainder of my life, personally and academically. As a tutor myself now, I have found that I can encourage a lot of appeal in the student by simply relating the material to their own interests. Helping a student as a part of their life and development academically is very rewarding and managing to help those with little confidence come through adversity and achieve extremely good exam results is in itself invaluable. Having recently completed a first class BA in Classics, I feel that I am even more prepared to aid students of ancient languages with my fresh and very relaxed approach to tutoring exam/coursework. It is worth understanding that as a tutor, I hold a completely different relationship with the student from that between a teacher and pupil, and will try not only to aid their understanding of the subject matter, but to make it enjoyable and hopefully, help them achieve the development and results they desire. |

| About Nikolas: I am a qualified Art Tutor, teaching to all ages, with long experience in various subjects of Fine Arts, such as, Painting, Printmaking, Drawing, and Craft techniques. Being native Greek I can also offer Greek tutorials (modern Greek) although it's a secondary subject in my tutorial experience. |
Teaching Experience: I have 2-year experience (2000-2002) working as Drawing and Painting freelance tutor for students in higher education. During these 2 years I delivered art tutorials to students preparing for Art College examinations and working towards a completion of art portfolio. During 2004 I collaborated in a 6-month extra curriculum workshop for primary school children. It involved arts and crafts activities such us collage, mask making, group painting on given themes, painting techniques, understanding of colours, and painting through examples of 20th c painters. I was also accepted for participating at the "Cumbria Arts and Archives project 2007" for Cumbrian schools, the applications were sent to schools participating at the project and students themselves took part in the selection process. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe every person has individual needs in learning a subject (especially Art subjects) and I try to give priority to this pedagogical stream of tutoring, in particular when it concerns younger ages. I believe tutoring should be contacted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and the whole experience should be interactive, educational and enriching for both the tutor and the student. |

| About Alastair: I have always enjoyed the study of languages and have a degree in Classical languages from University College London. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored students from primary school to university level in Maths, Latin and Greek. This includes preparing students for exams and tests. |
Tutoring Approach: I try to structure my sessions between the core skills of language learning: in classics this is crucially reading and writing. My other goal is to develop vocabulary and grammar in an accessible format. In mathematics my approach is to illustrate how to break a problem down into its simplest form and proceed from there. |

| About Fani: I am a PhD student doing research on Iranian Cinema. I have studied Film Studies in both undergraduate and graduate level and wish to share this knowledge with others. I enjoy explaining theories and ideas in simple terms and this has been my writing style throughout my academic studies. I am looking forward to an academic career focusing on teaching and lecturing. I am a native Greek speaker and could also teach my language to those who are interested. I am very friendly, encouraging and supportive, sensitive to people's emotions, perceptive of how others feel. My education has given me a valid foundation from which I can proceed in offering to others what I have learnt and what I have found out myself, giving them space and time to also discover more. |
Teaching Experience: Unfortunately I do not have any teaching experience. |
Tutoring Approach: Although I have got no experience I could use the experience I gained from the others that taught me. What I enjoyed from my own tutors such as helping me to understand, to discover things my self and to express myself freely-independence and support- is something I wish to keep when teaching others. Nevertheless what I disliked, such as being overly critical over one's mistakes or impatient when one does not learn or understand on the pace he/she is expected, is something that I will avoid. I believe in listening to others before doing the talking and sometimes let the others lead the conversation in order to see what they are interested in and what they can learn from me. |

| About Georgia: I am a PhD student at the university of Leeds (School of Music). I did my Masters degree in Music Performance (Singing) also at the Leeds uni, and my Bachelor in Musicology at the university of Athens (Greece). I am currently a piano teacher at the Music School of Peiraias (Athens) with a permanent position, and I am studying in UK with a sabbatical from the Greek Ministry of Education. |
Teaching Experience: I have many years of experience in various conservatoires in Greece (I am teaching since 1996). Right after my graduation (2000) I started working in Music Schools, teaching piano, music theory, choral singing and solo singing. At the same time, I continued to teach piano, choral singing and chamber music in conservatoires, and give private tuition as a piano and singing teacher, as well as a piano accompanist. In 2002 I took a permanent position as a piano teacher in Music Schools after the relevant Greek Ministry of Education's teaching competition. |
Tutoring Approach: My would say that my approach differs from student to student, because I'm always trying to discover his/her personal potentials and, most importantly, make him/her capable of listening to himself/herself and correcting his /her own mistakes. I believe that the key to a successful music teaching is to find the balance between detailed studying and the ability to enjoy your playing/singing. |

| About Theodoros: For the last six years, I am working as a teacher in several Greek schools in London and I am teaching the Greek language to adults and students aged 6 to 14 (from basics to GCSE). In addition my 3 years work experience in Greece as a teacher helped me to appreciate the importance of being a good communicator in order to be a good classroom manager. As a past member of Greek Educational Mission, I had the opportunity to participate in many seminars for the in-service teachers and realise that through team work you can share ideas on how to curry out or improve on specific tasks. |
Teaching Experience: 1)Sept 1999-2002 Primary School Teacher, appointed by the Greek government, working in primary schools in the areas of Sparta, Crete and Piraeus (Greece). 2)Sept 2002-July 2008 Heritage Language Instructor Teaching Modern Greek Language. Primary school Instructor (full -time) send by the Greek government to serve the Greek-Cypriot community in London. 3)Sept 2002-July 2008 Private tutor |
Tutoring Approach: As a teacher of evening schools and private lessons, I found it very challenging to keep the students interested in the work. This experience taught me the importance of establishing good relationships with the students in order to gain their respect and keep them interested. |
