About Ben:
I'm a friendly, relaxed and very approachable private tutor. I'm a student myself once again currently training to be a doctor at the University of Warwick (In year 2 of 4) - Aiming to become a GP.

I love teaching and plan to be involved in teaching in the future once qualified as a doctor (most likely in University Medical Schools).

Previous students I have tutored have said that they enjoyed the sessions, found them very helpful and well planned. Most students I have tutored in the past achieved grades higher than they were expecting.

I have a 1st Class honors degree from the University of Birmingham, with my first year being at the University of Adelaide in Australia, have achieved numerous academic prizes (listed below) and have quite a lot of experience as a private tutor and in other teaching environments (See below).

Teaching Experience:

2 years private tutoring of Chemistry students (A-level and University of Adelaide 1st year Chemistry and Maths students), Maths (International Bac., A-level, 1st year univsersity level and primary school students).

14 months as a teaching assistant at the Old Hall School, Wellington, Shropshire. (Lessons for years 3-8 often unsupervised in Maths, Science, French, German, PE/swimming). Also helped school boarders with their homework in these subjects.

2 years as a swimming instructor in Australia for 4 to 15 year olds.

Tutoring Approach:

In the first session, I would give an extra hour free of charge. This would enable you to see whether my tutoring style would suit you and also to determine what goals you would be working towards (ie specific A-level/GCSE grades, passing entrance and or other exams) in addition to identifying what level you are currently at and planning how you wish future sessions to run.

I tend to run sessions quite flexibly (and can adapt for individual needs) in that we can cover whatever material you wish (ie areas you find problematic, current course work etc). We can also work together in a more structured format if you wish (ie systematically working through the syllabus or through work/exercises/exam-style questions I would prepare myself beforehand).

I would also provide you with my university email address so you can email me with questions between sessions which I will try to answer as soon as possible.

About Chantal:
I am currently studying French, German and Politics in Birmingham, and I am native speaker in French and German and I went to school in both countries.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English, German, Mathematics and Physics in France mostly to 16-17 year-olds.

Tutoring Approach:

I really enjoy passing on knowledge as my parents were both teachers. Tutoring should always be adjusted to the tutee and a good relationship with the tutor is therefore necessary.

About Peter:
I am a 24 old German, living in Birmingham for since October 2008.
In 2004 I graduated from "Grosse Stadtschule Rostock", Germany achieving an average grade of 2,1 in my Abitur (A-Level equivalent). My majors were English and German. After my civilian service I studied "Popular Music and Media Management" at the University of Paderborn, Germany, which I will complete this term with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Furthermore I had piano lessons for 10 years and am playing the bass guitar for 6 years. I am also a autodidact in rhythm guitar and able to teach the basic concepts.

Teaching Experience:

Since studying at an internationally accredited university enables you to get to know people from around the world, I came in contact with a lot of students whose mother tongue was not German.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning a foreign language and about a different culture can be a lot of fun. Although some rules, especially grammar, have to be learned by heart. I can offer you German classes with a lot of real life examples, such as music, films, literature, TV shows and magazines.
It is possible to learn about German politics and the German party systems through a vivid conversation which does not only enables you to understand German politics and history, but also upgrades your conversational skills.
Having played in several bands enables me to teach a real-live approach to music and the instrument.

About Johannes:
I am a student from Germany currently doing Arabic and Turkish language courses at the University of Birmingham. I completed my A-levels 3 years ago with the main subjects Further Maths, Art (theoretical and applied), German and History and worked as a nurse afterwards in the University-clinic of Essen until I moved to Birmingham. Since my studies of medicine will continue next autumn I took a year off to gain some experience abroad.

Teaching Experience:

During my A-levels and the years after I constantly was a tutor of maths for different students of all ages and levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I am sure there is a pleasant way to learn a subject for everyone. Even students that hate a subject can enjoy learning when it is explained from a different point of view and with another (maybe uncommon) approach towards it. I recognised during previous tutoring that it is sometimes just the way things are taught in school, which does not suit a students way of thinking.

Of course all prices are negotiable.

About Female:
From the Manager of My Child's Education

'My Child's Education' was started by a husband and wife team. My name is Aminur Rahman. I am a medical doctor, aged 29 and currently working full time. My wife, Shahina Ahmed is a full time mum. We have two daughters. The first is aged 5 years and the second is 1 year.

While thinking about the future of our daughters' education we realised that there was no facility for quality private tuition with which we would be completely satisfied and to which we could send them to in the future. This is why we decided to set up 'My Child's Education' in November 2006. We believe that there are many other parents who think similarly. We believe that many parents would like their daughters to be tutored by high quality female tutors in a safe environment where they can interact with other similar girls to reach their potential.

I myself have high expectations of both tutors and students, having received a high quality education myself as a child and having achieved straight A's in 11 GCSEs (including 4A*) and 2 A's and 2 B's at A-level before going on to University. I have both received private tuition myself and also tutored children during my student days. These experiences have given me an insight into what is actually required for success.

We run this organisation as efficiently as we can and without hiring unnecessary staff, thereby reducing running costs and ultimately the fees to a minimum. The fees primarily go towards class hiring costs and tutors' fees. We aim to offer some of the best pay rates around in order to attract the best tutors.

I hope that your child will enjoy and benefit immensely from the tuition she receives at My Child's Education. If you ever have any questions, queries or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Dr Aminur Rahman

Teaching Experience:

10 A grades at GCSE (including 9 A*)

Miss H Audley (Physics, Maths)
3rd Year MSci (Physics & Space Research), Birmingham University
9 A grades at GCSE (including 5 A*)

Miss S Pervaze (Biology, Chemistry, Science to GCSE)
2nd Year Undergraduate BSc (Biomedical Science)

Miss G Killeen (English, Biology)
11 A grades at GCSE (including 7A*)
BA (Hons) History - Currently doing her PGCE to become a qualified teacher

Tutoring Approach:

'My Child's Education' has been set up to set up with the aim of providing a weekend school of a high quality for bright girls aged 8 - 16 (Years 4-11) where all the students and teachers are female.

Many parents in the local community would prefer their daughters to receive private tuition in a female only environment due to cultural, religious or safety concerns. There are no such weekend schools available for this group of students and parents in Birmingham. Hence this scheme.

About Marc:
I am a fully qualified Modern Languages teacher with 25 years experience of teaching
FRENCH / GERMAN / SPANISH
to GCSE, AS Level and A Level in schools and Sixth Form Colleges.

Language for Business is also offered

I have an interest in how the use of languages enhances business opportunities for the UK and have been involved in an export business for a few years.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach in a Sixth Form College. I have taught students of all ages from 11 to adult in schools and Colleges. I also teach Religious Studies to A Level. My experience also includes delivering courses for companies (Business Language).

My teaching experience has been mainly in the UK school system (schools and colleges) but has also included work in France (1 year) and Spain (3 years).

Tutoring Approach:

Learning languages is all about communication and motivation: students need to understand that there is a point to learning a new language - whether for holiday or for business.
Of vital importance for most tutees is that the tutor understands the requirements of the exams and can train students in tasks that will get them through these exams

About Robin:
I have recently retired from language teaching in a secondary school and have worked part-time in primary schools, too. Languages have always been part of my life, because I was educated in Belgium and lived in Germany for several years. I have been a translator and have worked for several years for an examination board. I have two children of my own and a grand-daughter, too.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for about 15 years in secondary schools and occasionally in primary schools. I have also coached both adults and children, particularly when they are about to have important exams!

Tutoring Approach:

Language learning should be fun as well as challenging and I have always made sure that students feel that they are learning and achieving quickly. The big advantage of private tutoring is that any course can be tailored exactly to the student's needs.

About Krzysztof:
Dear Sir or Madam

My name is Chris. (Krzysztof Pawilowski)

I am experienced teacher of German and English is my second foreign language. I'm 30 and I'm hard working and enthusiastic. Since last June I am happy husband. I am reliable person and I am able to work in team. I also like new challenges and I can learn new things easily.

I can learn fast. I speak two foreign languages. I still develop my own hobbies. I play guitar. I really like new experiences. That's why I moved to Scotland.

Teaching Experience:

Primary School
position: German teacher (Poland) september 2004-august 2006

Private Language Centre september 2004-june 2005
FISCHER (Poland)

Tutoring Approach:

I have experience in teaching in Primary School. I do really know how much effortful the work with children is. I found the work with children the most challenging experience in my career paths. However, the children gave me indeed the most fun from teaching. You know... satisfaction of critical "customer" gives always more fun!
I had the adults classes as well. I used to teach them with a special method. That for I had to go through a course preparing me for teaching with this method. This was method which is based on gesticulation and facial expression a lot. The large advantage of this method was using only the goal language. So the group people had always to answer in German. And it is not so hard! Because you are starting from the very easy things!

I am a French student, and I come from Paris. This is my first time living abroad, and I love Bournemouth, especially since I have been coming here on holiday ever since I was a little baby! I am currently studying a master's degree in Multi-Media Journalism at Bournemouth University, and am looking for a job to help finance my living expenses. I have an undergraduate degree in languages, specifically English and German, and would love to pass on my knowledge to whoever needs it!

Teaching Experience:

For the past two years I have been tutoring students from the age of 12 to 20 in English, French and German through an agency just like this one.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very basic, I like to talk to the student during the first class about his or her main issues, so that I can organise what main points we will be working on. I also like to put students at ease and often let them call me by my first name. I don't want them to feel too anxious! I find it very gratifying to work with students and help them progress.

About Kerry:
I am currently a student of Combined Modern Languages (German and Spanish) at the University of Portsmouth, though I am originally from Birmingham. I am in my second year of study, having been learning German almost nine years and Spanish for two. I also attended King Edwards Grammar school up to GCSE level after passing my 11+, and aim to take a PGCE after I graduate to qualify as a secondary school/sixth form level teacher. I am also a current member of my local St. John Ambulance within my University.

Teaching Experience:

Previously I have worked for one year in a primary school in a Year 5 classroom (ages 9-10) part-time, assisting in English, Maths, Science and Religious Studies teaching. After this I worked once a week as a teaching assistant in a GCSE German class, focusing mainly on the speaking and grammar sections of the exam by working with small groups of students outside of the main classroom. I have also worked with younger children up to 5 years old. I am not fully qualified as a teacher, but have however been CRB checked and have previously done German tutoring within secondary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is very important to assess the individual needs of a tutee and get to know them well. I think having someone available as a constant for help outside of the official classroom is a great help. I can work with either individuals or with small groups in 'study sessions'.

About Christopher:
Hi, I am a recent graduate from Oxford University in French and German with a passion for both languages, who wants to help anyone develop anyone wishing to improve.

Teaching Experience:

I have given private tuition before on a word of mouth basis and during my year abroad placement at university I taught English to primary school pupils in Switzerland.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to find out how each student learns best and what their strengths and weaknesses are, before drawing up a learning plan. For example to address difficulties in grammar I would draw upon structured excercises to build confidence, alongside conversational work to enable grammar to be used well in practice. I am also happy to look at essay writing skills, translation skills, literary analysis etc...

About Yvonne:
I am a 33-year old double honours French and German language and literature graduate (93-97 from the University of East Anglia in Norwich) where I gained a 2:1 degree classification. I spent a year in Saarlouis, Germany (95-96) teaching English and French in a German grammar school. I speak and write both languages fluently and have a real love of languages and the learning and teaching of languages.

I studied both French and German at A level (91-93) where I obtained A and B grades respectively.

Since then I have worked in several large blue chip organisations at supply chain managerial level including Boots Healthcare International (in Nottingham), Procter and Gamble (in Weybridge, Surrey) and Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy (in London). In all of these roles, I used both my German and French languages extensively.

I am now a mother of a 8-month old girl. I have recently undertaken tutoring sessions for GCSE level French for pupils from both a secondary school and from blue-chip companies.

I can supply personal and professional references for all of my work experience including tutoring sessions.

Teaching Experience:

As part of my degree course, I spent a year teaching English and French at a grammar school in the Saarlouis region of Germany during 95-96.

Since then, I have continued my love of teaching and tutoring in all of my blue-chip roles where I have been a team manager for large supply chain departments.

I have recently begun to tutor GCSE French to local students in the Chertsey and Weybridge area. All recommendations and references available.

Tutoring Approach:

I concentrate on building students' self-confidence through structured lessons.
I believe that lesson planning is key to the success of a lesson and to responding to the needs of each individual student.
Once I receive a new student I spend valuable time understanding areas they find difficult in a a language and looking at areas where grades can be improved significantly for success in exams.
I am a very patient and caring tutor who listens, understands and builds the foundations for an excellent language progess for every student.
During a lesson I will always concentrate on the core syllabus of the GCSE or A/S or A level work but will make the session fun, inspiring and challenging!
I think praise is very important for a student and telling them how they are progressing.
I will concentrate on a communicative approach but like to underline the importance of grammar in a language and will concentrate on this especially at AS and A level standard. Grammar is comprehensively covered in lessons and is a real strength of my teaching.
As a native English speaker I can relate to and explain well the structure of a new language to students who may feel perplexed by and afraid of it. This also strengthens undoubtedly the knowledge of their own English structure and grammar.
My referees point out that I have built up confidence in their children and that I am very patient and caring.

About James:
I'm a finalist (4th year) at Royal Holloway University of London studying French and German. I have just spent the past year in Dijon and Heidelberg, so I am in touch with the respective societies and cultures.

Teaching Experience:

I have not taught yet, as I am still an undergraduate, but I have helped students previously while studying at a grammar school. My past year studying in France and Germany has seen me in contact with students and lecturers from all over Europe, so I feel I am understanding the importance of education.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to approach the teaching, as the tutee wishes. The atmosphere will be relaxed and there is no pressure to overload the tutee, but rather to find the right balance between understanding the languages and building a sound knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. I'm happy to address any specific issues, or start from scratch or I can suggest topics myself, which I consider beneficial.

About Wenke:
I'm German with a (German) M.A. in English, French and Russian. I've been living in the UK since 2002. I've always wanted to become a teacher and started studying on a teacher training course for languages in Germany. When I moved to the UK, I worked in publishing and marketing for German and French companies and taught German and French in the evenings. Since the birth of my son in 2006, I've been working as a self-employed tutor and translator for German and French. I teach German for any age-group and French up to A-level. My pupils so far range from 13-year-olds to 65-year-olds.

Teaching Experience:

Since the age of 20, I've been teaching languages. I started supplementing my income teaching English and French in Germany while I was a student. When I moved to the UK in 2002, I taught mainly German and French as a private tutor. I've always taught different age groups, i.e. pupils who need language tuition for school, professionals who need a language for work as well as people who just want to learn a language to go on holiday. My main experience is as a one-to-one tutor, although I have taught classes in businesses in Birmingham and will hopefully be teaching for Solihull College and Brasshouse Language Centre from September.

Tutoring Approach:

Over the years I have accumulated a vast amount of teaching materials and am constantly adding to the collection. I tend to design lessons for each pupil individually, using course books, the internet, CDs, magazines, books etc. For pupils, the focus is always on the National Curriculum of the year they are in, while adult learners will usually have a business or leisure focus to their lessons. Every pupil is different and struggles with different aspects of language learning. One-to-one lessons give both the teacher and the pupil the opportunity to work specifically on those areas. I'm also happy to teach small groups.

About Lachlan:
I am an Antipodean and Continental graduate in German, English and Politics with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

I am fluent in German and well-informed about German life and culture, having lived in German-speaking countries for ten years. I have worked in Germany (Osnabruck & Speyer), Belgium (Antwerp) and Italy (Florence) and have a working knowledge of Italian, basic French and a rudimentary grasp of other major European languages. I like to think of myself as an aspiring European.

For the last 7 years I have been engaged on a tertiary-level research project charting the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, which has resulted in the publication of 15 volumes to date in the series of the same name. My role has been mainly one of liaison between the editors and contributors to the series (some 450 individuals all told) as well as organizational, research and editing responsibilities.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and exhibition curator. My specialty and
