About Flora:
I am a 25 year old woman living in Bedminster. I studied BSc Genetics at Swansea University and graduated in 2004. I achieved the Ivor Isaac Memorial Prize for Microbiology for my dissertation.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years qualified teaching experience. I have taught GCSE for both years (AQA syllabus), and A-level biology (SNAB) for one. I find science really interesting, especially genetics which is my specialism. I am confident teaching physics and chemistry at Key Stage 3 and also most topics at GCSE (electricity, energy, forces. atomic structure), although some areas I am less confident on (waves and radiation, metals, earth materials).

I am able to offer SNAB teaching at A-level (biology) but only units 'On The Wild Side' and 'Grey Matter'

Tutoring Approach:

I love science and love seeing it all around me. I find it fascinating and like to share this fascination with others. My teaching style is enthusiastic, patient and comprehensive. I am happy to branch out into other areas of discussion if the session leads that way, it's all part of the learning process, and helps to stimulate interest. In 121 teaching I hope to take the teaching outside of the room, perhaps into the kitchen, the outdoors... where ever the teaching can be maximised. We may even set up projects where relevant and accessible, so aid learning.

Qualifications:
PGCE Science (General Secondary Science)
Passed Newly Qualified Teacher year
BSc Genetics (2:1)

About John:
I live near Mansfield and help my partner with her pet grooming business. My children are all grown up and either working or at university. I have worked in radar, retail and education. I gained my degree through the Open University. I would rather meet plenty of people and new situations than work all day every day in the same space.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at Further Education colleges and at school, primarily in the sixth form (IT). I have delivered IT skills within non-IT based curricula (Health & Social Care, NNEB, Leisure & Tourism, Science). Evening classes provided an opportunity to appreciate applications of IT within different career settings - I taught on vocational courses. I have attended work/home settings to assist in the solution (through learning) to individual or group concerns, facilitating a positive attitude towards the use of IT at work or in the home.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be fun, spontaneous and freely sought. Teaching methods should be motivating and encourage retention of learning, as well as leading the student to attempt to solve problems for themselves as far as possible, so that if there are gaps to be filled, the student will have some informed connection with any discussion. I strive to promote an investigative approach to new learning, especially with IT/computing lessons. In IT I like to teach skills that learners will use, in maths I try to make the learning approach informed, so that the next problem in a topic, although requiring something different to the last one, can be solved using underpinning knowledge previously gained

Qualifications:
PGCE: FE
Degree in maths and computing BA
