About Jasbir:
I am a 49 year old married man with children. I am of Indian origin but born in Kenya living in the UK since I was 5 years old. I am an Electronic Test Engineer by profession currently working for the MOD on classified projects.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English to students of foreign languages. I have also, through my work, taught junior engineers various aspects of Electrical Engineering, methods and safe practice at work.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a very patient and understanding approach to tutoring especially where the subject matter is English. English not being a phonetic language, it is very difficult to grasp the the ability to spell correctly. Therefore one has to remember how to spell correctly as oppased to stringing letters together.

About Caroline:

- 2004-2007: PhD entitled 'Sons of Ulster: Masculinities in the Contemporary Northern Irish Novel'.

- In 2006 I was the recipient of the Margaret Cuthbert Frazer award for excellence in the criticism of Northern Irish writing.

- 2003-2004: MA in English (Irish Writing).

Teaching Experience:
- In the second semester of 2006, 2007 and 2008 I taught 'Introduction to Irish Literature' to second years at Queen's University, Belfast.

- In the second semester 2008 I am teaching on a new first year module 'Sounds of the City', which focuses on the urban experience in literature in a variety of texts. I will also give a lecture on this module, based on the urban in Belfast literature.

About Frances:
Originally from the North West, I moved down to west London to gain more teaching experience. I thoroughly enjoy my job and have a mature yet fun approach to my work. Aged 25 and extremely self motivated, I have particular enthusiasm for ensuring that I achieve in everything that I do. About Dalvinder:
I am 39 years old and at present working in a secondary school. I live near Skipton and I enjoy walking and rock-climbing. I have been an examiner for SATs KS2 and KS3 in Science, English and Maths. I have been doing private tutoring for ten years, most have been for school entrance exams, GCSEs and A levels.

Teaching Experience:
My teaching specialism is in Chemistry but I have 15 years experience of teaching many different subjects. At the moment I teach Science and English to secondary deaf children. I have worked in primary schools teaching Science, English and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:
Depending on the reason for the tutoring I work with the student for an hour and then set them some tasks to do for the next visit, they can ring me if they get stuck. I will go through past papers with them and have a look through ideal answers with them. I play maths games with the younger ones and explore different ways of remembering spelling rules. Sometimes students are struggling with homework so I cover this too.

Tutoring Approach:
Step by step method towards an aim. Develop fun engaging lessons so the student is doing most of the work and they are enjoying it.
Each of my lessons are geared towards an aim for example vocab to improve reading skills etc.
Encouraging to those when they are negative and try to turn them around and change their negative beliefs.
Have different teaching styles for different ages of student from using flash cards with younger students to asking older student to explain their job in English.
Have talk exam and business groups and conversation classes

About Parveen:
I did English Literature, Mathematics and Economics at A-Levels which I completed in 2001. I went straight onto University where I obtained a (BA Hons) in Accounting and Finance in 2004 from Kingston Univeristy. After the completion of my degree I started ACCA (Professional Accounting Exams) which I finished last summer in 2007.

I was not a natural at studying but with hard work and determination I have proven that your dreams are achievable. I currently work for a bank in the City and I would find it most enjoyable to put something back into the community. I would like to teach the next generation and make learning fun and inspiring.

Teaching Experience:
In the past I used to tutor young children through the Kumon scheme, a Japenese style of Arithmetic Mathematics. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and discovered that the best satisfaction one gains is watching a pupil develop and improve.

During my 2-year period with the Kumon scheme whilst I was studying for my GCSE's, I was given a group of pupils to teach. Classes used to be held each Saturday and involved me working through mathematical problems on a personal and group basis. During weekly classes, I would teach new skills, set homework for the following week and mark the previous week's homework by highlighting and explaining any mistakes which were made.

I found it be very challenging at such a early age, taking on a class of pupils and managing individual time with each pupil in the group. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and now after completing all my studies I have more time to invest in teaching.

Tutoring Approach:
I honestly believe that it will always help to give pupils encouragement, inspiration and praise. Every teacher needs to be supportive, dedicated and focused.

I like to make teaching enjoyable, fun and take time to prepare for my classes so that I can make examples that pupils can relate to.

I am very passionate about teaching. I want to feel challenged again and do something worthwhile with my spare time. In my opinion, teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs.
